5 Techniques You Should Know For Painting Your Living Room in San Jose, CA

When you are in the process of remodeling parts of your home, one thing you may want to do is to take on the project of painting your living room.

There are so many things that can go wrong when you are going to paint your living room, and what’s worse is that if you take things in the wrong direction, it could cost you both money and time.

If you know what you are doing, however, you will do a fairly impressive job with your living room paintwork and have a nice looking living room for years to come.

With that being the case, here are five techniques you should know for painting your living room in San Jose, CA.

1. Making Sure To Sand Before Painting

One of the biggest and most important parts of the painting process when it comes to painting your living room walls (but as it turns out, also applies to walls in just about any room in your home) is making sure that you have a smooth surface for painting.

Having a smooth surface does a few things — for one, it will make sure that your paint will ultimately go on evenly and not lumpy or inadequate in any sense of the word.

To get yourself started with having a smooth surface, it is useful to properly sand the surface of your living room walls prior to beginning with the paintwork — this is no the kind of sand that you might typically see with working but rather a light sanding to ensure that you start off with a smoother surface.

2. Applying A Coat Of Primer Before Your Paint

As long as we are already discussing having a smooth surface, you should remember that you cannot consider painting your living room walls without applying a coat of primer before applying your coat or coats of paint.

Primer is a good foundation to put on before your paint because it, too, provides a good smooth surface on which to paint.

Paint adheres so much better to primer than it does to your typical wall surface that hasn’t any primer on it — it is said that paint that goes on top of primer lasts significantly longer than paint that goes over the bare wall.

3. Make Sure You Have Protected The Floors Before Painting

When you are in the process of painting your walls, your floors may be among the last things that you think about — but the first time a drop of paint gets on your uncovered floors, you will surely notice it.

This is even more so the case if it is allowed to dry, and then you have to take the effort to get the paint off of the floor.

The better route is to make sure that your floors are properly protected prior to beginning the painting project, possibly by using things like canvas drop cloth coated with plastic, which does not move while you are walking about and also don’t let the paint get through to the floor.

4. Measure Twice, Paint Once

When you are looking to paint your living room walls, it’s imperative that you have all of the right supplies there and that you don’t have to go chasing after something in the middle of the paint job.

This includes paint — and making sure that you have enough of it.

Measuring the walls that you’re going to paint and then using a paint calculator will be a great way to make sure that you don’t run out of paint part way through your work — and in most cases, it’s better to have leftover paint than to run out.

5. Make Sure You Set Aside Adequate Time

Many people rush into a paint job, thinking it’s only going to take them a few hours, and then when they see how long it is taking, start cutting corners to make the job go faster, which only makes the work worse.

Figure out how long the job is really going to take, given the time that it takes to paint and for paint and primer to dry and make sure that you have enough time set aside to get the job done right.
